Cavendish Golf Club in Buxton was founded in 1925 and designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie, the architect who went on to build Augusta National. At 5,721 yards it is short by modern standards, but plenty of long par 4s, a clever layout and big changes in elevation mean it won’t feel short by the time you reach the 18th.
Wonderful views of the Peak District, undulating fairways, natural hazards and complex sloping greens make it a challenge for the very best, while still being enjoyable for golfers of all abilities. Look out for hares, pheasants, buzzards and roe deer as you go round.
After your round, the clubhouse terrace is the perfect place for a drink in the sunshine. Cavendish is ranked among the top 100 courses in England and is the highest-ranked course in Derbyshire.
Course: 18-hole parkland. Address: Watford Road, Buxton, Derbyshire SK17 6XF
