Sensational South West: Links Golf and Coastal Stays

The South West of England may not have an Open Championship venue, but its links courses rival the finest anywhere in Britain and Ireland. Sweeping Atlantic views, towering dunes and beautifully kept fairways make this one of the most rewarding golf trips in the country, and the welcome is every bit as warm as the scenery.

The golf

A classic South West trip runs down the coast from Somerset into Cornwall. Start at Burnham & Berrow, with its huge dunes, then head into North Devon for Royal North Devon at Westward Ho!, England’s oldest links, and the two championship courses at Saunton. In Cornwall, St Enodoc, Trevose and Perranporth complete a run of links golf that is hard to beat.

Where to stay

The coast is lined with hotels that make the most of the view. Saunton Sands Hotel sits above three miles of golden beach next to the golf, and the Headland Hotel looks out over Fistral Beach. Waking up to the Atlantic horizon is an experience that lingers long after the trip ends.

Food and drink

The South West is one of England’s great food regions, from freshly landed seafood to celebrated restaurants, including Rick Stein’s in Padstow. A long dinner after a day on the links is part of the experience.

A happy place

There is something special about the atmosphere here, where golfers and surfers share the same stretch of coastline. The light, the sea air and the relaxed pace keep visitors coming back. Explore our Southwest Premier Links tour, or tell us about your trip and we will help you plan it.
