Set beside the River Wharfe beneath the famous Ilkley Moor, Ilkley Golf Club is a lovely place to play, with a good balance of challenge, accessibility and scenery. Founded in 1890, it is the third-oldest club in Yorkshire, and it is where Colin Montgomerie learnt the game. Former Ryder Cup captain Mark James is also a member.
Alister MacKenzie, Harry Colt and James Braid all had a hand in the course, which measures 6,271 yards to a par of 69. It is an engaging test for good players without being daunting for those who play less often. Greens sit close to the next tees, there is little rough and the layout is generally flat, so rounds are enjoyable and quick.
The friendly team can arrange everything for a group day, from competition formats and nearest-the-pin prizes to buggies, and the golf and dining packages can be tailored to your budget. Ilkley features on our Leeds Golf Tour and pairs well with Moortown, Sand Moor and Alwoodley.
Course: 18-hole parkland. Address: Nesfield Road, Ilkley LS29 0BE
