Donnington & Co is an 18-hole, par-71 parkland course in the rolling West Berkshire countryside just south of Newbury, part of a four-star golf resort with a spa and a two AA Rosette restaurant.
Measuring 6,221 yards from the back tees, it is a course for golfers of every standard. Generous fairways and the absence of punishing rough keep it fun for higher handicaps, while water, mature trees, natural changes in elevation and well-placed bunkers make better players think. The greens are highly undulating, so a confident putting stroke is essential.
The front nine is a gentle introduction before the back nine becomes noticeably more demanding, with tighter approaches, water and tricky green complexes all the way home. The closing holes play towards the Grade II-listed Snelsmore House, which is home to the clubhouse and overlooks the 9th and 18th greens. There is also a driving range, practice putting and chipping areas, and a well-stocked pro shop.
Stay on site at Donnington & Co and combine your rounds with the spa and good food. The resort is minutes from the M4 and A34, about an hour from London, and a good base for exploring the courses of Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
